SuDS Success in Hampshire

The Edenbrook project showcases the many benefits of our SuDS Turf.

This month we’re taking a look back at a long-running commercial project that has been managed by one of our Accredited Partners, Scofell Landscapes.

Based in Berkshire, Scofell Landscapes became a Wildflower Turf Accredited Partner back in September 2018. The team has many years of experience creating, maintaining and improving landscapes for commercial clients and regularly call on us to assist them with their projects.

Edenbrook is a development by Berkeley Homes with a selection of distinctive high specification homes in Fleet, bordering the highly desirable setting of an 82-acre country park, open green space and woodland.

At the outset, a management plan was drawn up by Berkeley Homes and approved by Hart District Council to maintain and enhance the area. Scofell Landscapes was brought in to maintain the country park which included large open spaces, footpaths and ponds.

With the Edenbrook development requiring SuDS (Sustainable Drainage System) expertise, the Scofell team was also engaged to landscape the development and provide remedial work after other services left the site.

Overall, we supplied Scofell Landscapes with 2,070m² of SuDS turf and 330m² of Landscape 34 Turf for the Edenbrook development, with the project commencing in late 2018.

The swale area at the Edenbrook site is sizeable, and also steep. Additional challenges came in the form of wild weather conditions at the time of installation and a tight timeline. The video below shows the area in question at the time of laying and the end result…let us know what you think!

Scofell Landscapes is currently working on a further Berkeley Homes development called Grove Farm, and Wildflower Turf Ltd is supplying Landscape 34 and SuDS turf to this project too. The site is adjacent to Edenbrook and will comprise of 450 new homes which will be built in phases.

With the wildflowers of Edenbrook impressing Berkeley Homes, Wildflower Turf has again been specified for its impactful appearance and its ability to provide proven results, even when timing is tight and the weather is inclement!

Our Wildflower Turf SuDS turf solution has been designed by our research and development department using our vast experience with the installation of Wildflower Turf in Sustainable Drainage Systems within the UK. We have also worked closely with UK landscape and ecology professionals and the species selected have been chosen to assist in the breakup of soil compaction for maximum water dispersal, whilst remaining established in times of drought or periodic flooding.

The turf is made up of 37 different species of wildflowers and grasses, subject to seed availability, with a minimum of 50% wildflowers.

As well as being aesthetically pleasing, the turf naturally produces a bio-diverse habitat supporting birds, mammals, bees, butterflies and other invertebrate species.

And, as with all our solutions, very low maintenance is required!
