Wild Flower Turf Email

WoodCuttersGarden

An example of Wild Flower turf in a presentational setting with additional 'flower plugs' at the Chelsea Flower Show. We received an email (below) after the show from Adrian Culling, the Horticultural Officer at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council ...

"James,
Many thanks for the email, we did very well at the show and won a Gold medal for the display. Photographs of which you can see at the Southend-on-Sea Council Web site, look under the 'Departments' link and then the 'Leisure Culture and Amenity Services' dept page and follow the 'Chelsea' links. (Chelsea links no longer active - webmaster).
The RHS judges and members of the public were very impressed and complementary about the meadow grass, the oxeye daisy flowered at just the right time and looked a treat.
Interestingly enough, the 35 sq. m that I grew outside & which received very little attention other than watering and three feeds was the one that I decided to use for the show.  It was stronger, had a better colour, more flower (despite not having additional wild flower plugs added to it) and was more constant/even than the grass grown under cover.
Yours Adrian".
